Latvian Nationwide Song and Dance Celebration is the most wanted event among latvians. This festival has very strong roots and traditions. Similar events have been organised already in the very beginning of 19th century; at that time these were celebrities when various groups from different parts of Latvia came together to take part in singing competitions. The first official Latvian Nationwide Song Celebration was hold in 1873. Later on also traditional dances were included in this celebration. This celebration takes part every five years, gathering together about 35 000 participant. Through different historical times this celebration has become symbol of unity.
