Gastronomic tour Baltics For Foodies in 8 days/8 nights, June - September 2017

Day 1 (Sunday): Arrival Vilnius

Arrival in Vilnius, optional transfer to Hotel Radisson BluLietuva**** or similar, check-in, welcome meeting where our tour escort willintroduce us to the program and to the traditionsof Lithuanian cuisine overa glass of local “champagne” and offer recommendations for tryingcontemporary Lithuanian cuisine in the Old Town.

Day 2 (Monday):Vilnius-Klaipeda

Vilnius is known for its more than 1.200 medieval buildings and 48churches. The morning sightseeing tour includes a panoramic tour of the cityand a walking tour of the Old Town with VilniusCathedral, Gediminas Tower,Peter and Paul Church, St. Anna’s Church, Old University the Gates of Dawnand a shop with Lithuanian herb liquors. After the tour we continue toTrakai, themedieval capital of Lithuania and we see the well preservedTrakai Castle, beautifully located on an island in Lake Galve. The balance ofthe day is spent en route to Klaipeda, where we arrive lateafternoon.Check-in at Hotel National**** or similar.

Day 3 (Tuesday): Klaipeda

The day is reserved for a full-day tour to the Curonian Spit, a thin,100 km stretch of land between the Baltic Sea and the Curonian Lagoon withsmall fishing villages, pine forests and endless sanddunes. Our first stopis the Hill of Witches in Juodkrante. After that, we continue to Nida, wherewe visit the High Dunes and Thomas Mann’s summerhouse. During the lunch breakwe take a strollaround the charming harbour and enjoy a light lunch with thespeciality of the Curonian spit: freshly smoked fish. In the afternoon, wedrive back to Klaipeda.In theevening we enjoy a traditionalLithuanian dinner with Lithuanian specialtiessuch as the famous cepeliniai at Restaurant 19th Century.

Day 4 (Wednesday):Klaipeda-Riga

Klaipeda first became a part of Lithuania in 1923 and had a longhistory as a German town called Memel. A short sightseeing tour takes us tothe Old Town with its narrow, cobblestone streetsand old guild houses and wevisit the Theatre Square and the Aennchen von Tharau Fountain. We now continueto the Samogitia National Park, where we embark on a walking tour around thepicturesque Lake Plateliai. After that, we continue to Siauliai and CrossHills, one of the holiest sites of Catholic Lithuania. We head North intoLatvia and reach Riga in the afternoon, check-in atHotel Radisson BluLatvija**** or similar. The evening offersan optional organ concert at the Dome Cathedral. Riga is famous for its manysophisticated gourmet restaurants and our tour escort will recommendthe bestof them for dinner.

Day 5 (Thursday): Riga

Founded in 1201 bythe German bishop Albert, Riga is the largest of the three Baltic capitalsand boasts a true kaleidoscope of various architectural styles. The walkingtour ofthe Old Town includes Riga Castle, Dome Cathedral, St. Peter’sChurch, Swedish Gates, Three Brothers, Large and Small Guild House and theFreedom Monument. Theafternoon is reserved for a visit to one of the largestmarket in Europe, Riga Central Market, where we will learn about Latviancuisine and Latvian organic food and sampleLatvian organic specialities,such as black bread, vegetables, fresh fish, sausages, countryside cheese andmuch more.In the evening enjoya Latvian dinner at the stylishRestaurant Forest withtraditional Latvian specialties topped with a shot of Riga Black Balsam.

Day 6 (Friday):Riga-Tallinn

The tour continues along the coastal highway to the Estonian summerresort of Parnu. We do a short tour of the resort before we continuethrough the North Estonian land offorests and arrive in Tallinnearly afternoon,check-in at the Hotel Radisson Blu Olympia**** or similar.Upon check-in, our tour escort will invite for afternoon tea with Estoniancheesecake and give an introduction of Estonian cuisineand recommendations fortrying new Nordic cuisine in Tallinn.
